Ah, it feels good to be working on some great projects.

I recently finished up a mix of a tune I recorded on one four-hour studio date. Nothing like the pressure of time to test the chops, right? Luckily I had a great second engineer who really knew the studio and its equipment and helped me get good sounds. This song was a semi-acoustic version of a song the band usually plays in a fully electric format, and now I have the pleasure of mixing their previously recorded electric version. I’ll be completing that within a month or so.

Today I’ll be delivering final mix, stems, and OMF for a short film I did post audio for—dialogue editing, sound editing, mixing, and a tiny bit of dialogue recording. It’s a funny little piece that makes me laugh, which is always a nice bonus.

In the next several days I will be preparing the final score and parts for a piece I wrote for a school chamber ensemble. The challenge here was to write for kids who are relative beginners at these particular instruments, but who have a fair amount of musical experience on other instruments. I enjoyed trying to craft a piece that would be technically limited to fit their skill sets while offering enough artful musical interest to satisfy their tastes as more experienced musicians. I think and hope I pulled that off.

I’ll go into more detail about each of these projects soon, and post some links or samples as well.
