I have a website I’d like to share. I started The Composers’ Playground (http://composersplayground.blogspot.com) mostly for myself, but I think it would be a ton of fun to have more than just me posting there. If you’re a composer and would like a little motivation to exercise the writing chops through frequent but small projects, this is for you.

Every week or so I post a theme. It could be a style or genre, a composer to emulate, or any other musical topic to compose on. And sometime that week, once I’ve whipped up something that fits the theme, I post it. You can do this, too. Sign up for the blog by visiting my contact page and dropping me a line.

Once you’re signed up and have a login and password, you can post your scores as .pdf or .jpg files and your audio as .mp3s. Or you can do what I am doing and use a cool, cloud-based notation program called Noteflight to write your music, and then use it to embed a playable score in your post. Either way, at the end of each weekly cycle the result will be a collection of different composers’ takes on one musical idea. I hope that if you enjoy writing music you’ll join me!
